The Association

SURFaddict - Associação Portuguesa de Surf Adaptado was created on May 16, 2012.

It has developed a community of participants, volunteers and monitors with specific skills all over the country. United in the pursuit of the pleasure of surfing, they are committed to making surfing a sport for everyone, and to ensuring that disability or wheelchairs are no impediment to anyone being able to feel the waves.

The essential characteristic of our Association is that it is free for all participants, based on a body of volunteers, surfers and non-surfers. In this way, all participants enjoy the surfing experience free of charge.

SURFaddict - Portuguese Association of Adapted Surfing is one of the first adapted surfing associations in Europe.

Objectives

SURFaddict - Portuguese Association of Adapted Surfing intends to make available the practice of surfing to people with any kind of limitation, be it motor, visual or cognitive.

But SURFaddict 's role goes far beyond this purely sporting aspect.

We also have other objectives, such as :

Demystifying the issue of disability, helping to break down prejudices that still exist in relation to disabled people;
Motivate those people to get out of the house or institution and socialise, providing a different day for them and their families;
Mobilising people to volunteer;
To draw the attention of municipalities and society in general to the importance of accessibility.
